Oils That Promote Hair Growth

Oils contained in plants are widely used for their hair care benefits. These oils perform vital functions in the bodies of the plants and have the ability to cleanse, nourish and strengthen hair. Let us take a look at some of the essential oils that can be used as hair care products.

  • Jojoba oil is beneficial for hair loss due to breakage. It is good for damaged hair and also has soothing properties for the skin.
  • Burdock oil helps stimulate the flow of blood to the hair follicles and hair growth. It is also helpful in repairing damage of the skin cells.
  • Rosemary and Clary Sage oil help promote hair growth. A good preparation can be a mixture of rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock boiled in a pan of water and then used as a shampoo.
  • Tea tree oil normalizes the function of the sebaceous gland. As a result the production of sebum becomes normal and the hair gives a non greasy look. This oil is also efficacious for the treatment of dandruff and becomes even more effective when used in conjunction with olive oil. Furthermore, due to its quality of moisturizing the scalp, it has a special importance among the oils that promote hair growth.
  • Basil and Peppermint oil help improve the circulation of blood to the hair and are good for thinning hair. They also help control oily hair.
  • Citrus oil is good for hair growth because it helps control excessive sebum in the hair and makes the hair clean. This oil that promotes hair growth can be obtained from lemon, grapefruit, etc.
  • Lavender oil has been found to be very efficacious in the treatment of alopecia (hair loss). It also accelerates the rate of wound healing.
  • Olive oil accelerates the growth of dry hair.
  • Bay oil is one of those oils for hair growth which are very efficacious for the treatment of dull and lifeless hair. A good preparation can be six drops each of lavender and bay oil in three ounces of carrier oil.

This was a review of some of the essential oils that promote hair growth. It must be remembered that essential oils are concentrated products and should be diluted in other oils called carrier oils like almond oil ( they are not soluble in water so they cannot be diluted in it).
